Agartala, March 5: A youth activist affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s youth wing was allegedly assaulted at his residence in Khowai’s Ramchandraghat area after a group of miscreants reportedly stormed into his home on Thursday morning.
The injured activist has been identified as Rupak Ghosh, a leader of the BJP Yuva Morcha. His mother, Meena Ghosh, also sustained minor injuries while attempting to shield her son during the attack. According to eyewitnesses, more than a hundred assailants were involved in the incident.
BJP leaders have held the Tipra Motha Party responsible for the alleged attack, claiming it was aimed at disrupting the party’s planned motorcycle rally in the area as part of its campaign for the TTAADC elections. They alleged that the attack was politically motivated and linked to growing support for the BJP in the region.
“As part of our election campaign, we have organised several joining programmes. Many voters who were previously associated with other parties have joined us. This has unsettled certain leaders, prompting such acts,” a BJP leader said.
According to party representatives, the incident occurred around 8:30 am when a group of alleged Tipra Motha supporters forcibly entered the residence and assaulted Rupak Ghosh without provocation. Police were informed soon after and reached the spot, shifting the injured to a local hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, BJP workers gathered at the local police station demanding immediate action against those responsible. Police officials have not yet issued a detailed statement, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
