Agartala: Mar 04. Leaders of the Tipra Motha Party today alleged large-scale discrepancies in the electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), claiming that non-tribal and “invalid” voters have been added across multiple constituencies.
Chairlam Block president Gautam Buddha Debbarma alleged that 190 non-tribal voters were newly included in the 19-Amtali-Golaghati constituency under Padmini Nagar Village Committee. According to him, the constituency had around 600 Tiprasa voters last year, and the fresh additions have raised serious concerns among party workers.
Describing the development as alarming, Debbarma claimed that continued inclusion of such voters could alter the demographic balance in Village Committees (VCs). He further alleged that if the trend persists and non-tribal voters become a majority, there could be attempts in future to convert VCs into gram panchayats.
He said the matter has already been raised with the Booth Level Officer (BLO) and would be formally taken up with the District Election authorities, seeking deletion of allegedly ineligible names from the rolls. Debbarma also informed that he would personally visit various Village Committees to verify the voter lists.
In a separate development, Member of District Council (MDC) Dhirendra Debbarma alleged irregularities in the 7-Demcherra-Kachucherra ADC constituency, claiming that nearly 350 individuals were marked as “invalid voters” following their shift from general to non-general categories.
He urged all elected representatives under the Council to conduct thorough scrutiny of electoral rolls in their respective constituencies to prevent what he termed as potential “vote manipulation” during the TTAADC elections.
