Kumarghat: Jan 15. Minister Santana Chakma today cautioned people against alleged misinformation being spread by the Opposition regarding the VB-GRAMG and MGNREGA schemes, asserting that both projects are being implemented transparently to boost rural development and employment.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP North Tripura district office, Atal Bhavan, the minister said the Centre and the Tripura government are jointly ensuring livelihood security, timely wage payments and infrastructure development through MGNREGA and the VB-GRAMG initiative.
Chakma claimed that the MGNREGA work limit has been increased from 100 days to 125 days, providing additional employment opportunities to rural workers. She stressed that all processes have been digitised in the public interest, eliminating chances of fraud or middlemen. Wages are directly credited to workers’ bank accounts, while work attendance is verified through geo-tagged photographs with GPS enabled.
Highlighting financial benefits, the minister said the interest rate linked to the scheme has been increased from 6 per cent to 9 percent. She added that such measures reflect the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Accusing the Opposition of deliberately spreading confusion, Chakma appealed to beneficiaries not to fall for propaganda and to rely on verified information. “These schemes are designed for the welfare of common people, and the facts speak for themselves,” she said.
She further stated that the Modi government’s long-term goal is to build a “Developed India” by 2047, and programmes like VB-GRAMG and MGNREGA are key steps toward improving the quality of life in rural areas.
The press conference was attended by North Tripura BJP president Kajal Kumar Das, OBC Commission chairman Mrinal Kanti Debnath, and other party leaders.
