Agartala, August 5: The Tripura government on Wednesday held a high-level review meeting under the leadership of Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma to assess the situation arising from the proposed agitation by the surrendered organizations JRAC and JAC over their nine-point charter of demands.
Senior officials from the concerned line departments attended the meeting, where the organizations’ demands, the prevailing situation, and possible measures to address the issues were discussed in detail. The meeting also focused on strengthening coordination among the departments to ensure timely and appropriate action.
The review comes after two organizations representing pre-1998 and post-1998 returnees of former insurgent outfits JRAC and JAC—announced an indefinite road and railway blockade beginning on Thursday, August 13, 2026, demanding the implementation of their nine-point charter of demands.
According to a statement issued by the organizations, the agitation will include a blockade of National Highway-8 near Chandra Sadhu Para (Sadrai Twisa), Hathai Kotor at Champaknagar Bridge, and a railway track blockade at Athuk Kwthang Twisa near Brigudas Kami.
The organizations described the protest as a “Gen-Z Youth Aggressive Movement” and a “do-or-die” campaign, alleging that the government has ignored their long-pending demands and treated returnee groups with indifference.
JRAC and JAC said the indefinite blockade is intended to pressure the government into addressing the issues raised in their nine-point demand charter. They also appealed to the people of Tripura for understanding and cooperation, acknowledging that the agitation may cause inconvenience to commuters and the general public.
Although the organizations have announced their protest programme, the detailed contents of the nine-point charter of demands have not yet been made public. The state government has initiated inter-departmental consultations to review the situation and coordinate its response ahead of the proposed agitation.
