Agartala, August 5: Candidates who qualified in the Selection Test for Graduate Teacher (STGT) staged a deputation to the Teacher Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) on Wednesday, demanding the immediate commencement of the document verification process and publication of the merit list.
The protesters alleged that although the STGT results were declared nearly four months ago, the board has yet to announce a schedule for scrutiny and document verification, delaying the recruitment process.
Speaking to the media, one of the candidates said the STGT recruitment notification was issued in August 2021, while the examination was eventually held on February 14, 2022 after repeated postponements. Despite clearing the examination, candidates claimed they are still awaiting the next stage of recruitment.
The aspirants pointed out that the STPGT (Selection Test for Post Graduate Teacher) recruitment process, which was notified around the same time, has already been completed, with selected teachers joining schools. In contrast, STGT-qualified candidates remain unemployed.
They also highlighted the ongoing shortage of teachers in many government schools across Tripura, particularly in Classes IX and X, where students have reportedly been protesting due to a lack of teachers.
“We have already proved our eligibility by qualifying the selection test. The government should complete the recruitment process at the earliest so that qualified candidates can join schools and help address both the teacher shortage and unemployment,” a protester said.
Around 50 to 60 qualified candidates participated in the deputation. According to the aspirants, the STGT recruitment has 723 vacancies, and they urged TRBT to expedite scrutiny, prepare the merit list, and complete appointments without further delay.
Another candidate questioned why document verification has not yet begun despite the absence of any known legal or procedural hurdles affecting the STGT recruitment. The candidate also expressed concern that many aspirants are approaching the upper age limit while waiting for appointments.
Several protesters said this was their first collective deputation to TRBT after receiving repeated assurances over the past months that verification would begin “soon.” They demanded a clear timeline from the board regarding document verification and final recruitment.
The candidates submitted a memorandum to the TRBT Chairman, urging the board and the state government to immediately initiate document verification, publish the merit list, and complete the appointment process at the earliest.
