Agartala, June 27: The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) Departments of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee have announced a gherao of the SC-OBC Corporation office at Lake Chowmuhani in Agartala on June 29, demanding the implementation of an 11-point charter for the welfare of SC and OBC communities.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference on Saturday by SC Department Chairman Niranjan Das and OBC Department Chairman Manoranjan Debnath.
The Congress leaders demanded the immediate filling of all vacant government posts, improved welfare benefits for Scheduled Castes through the SC Corporation, and collateral-free loans for purchasing vehicles such as cars, auto-rickshaws, and rickshaws. They also sought a monthly unemployment allowance of ₹5,000 for educated unemployed youth, loans of ₹30 lakh for SC engineers to undertake contractual works, and free education from the primary level to university. Additionally, they demanded that the daily wage of MGNREGA workers be increased to ₹500.
For the OBC community, the leaders called for the removal of the mandatory government employee guarantor requirement for loans from the OBC Corporation, dedicated scholarship and professional development schemes in the state budget, the formation of an OBC Development Council, implementation of 27% reservation in all Central educational institutions, including Tripura University and NIT Agartala, and a monthly unemployment allowance of ₹5,000 for educated OBC youth.
The Congress leaders said the SC-OBC Corporation Gherao on June 29 would be held to press the government to fulfil these demands.
