Agartala, 13 June: Narcotics Anonymous (NA), a global nonprofit fellowship for people recovering from addiction, continues to expand its reach across India and Tripura through recovery meetings and community services staffed entirely by volunteers. Founded in 1953, NA now conducts more than 72,000 meetings each week in 143 countries. In India, more than 468 meetings are held weekly, providing support for individuals seeking recovery from the disease of addiction.
In Agartala, Narcotics Anonymous currently conducts three recovery meetings each week, offering a safe and supportive environment where recovering addicts help one another remain drug-free. NA is fully self-supporting and declines outside contributions or assistance. The fellowship practices a tradition of non-endorsement and expresses no opinions on outside issues. Members are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help one another stay clean through a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. The fellowship is concerned with the disease of addiction and recovery from that disease. An addict’s choice of drug or drugs is unimportant. NA’s program is based on complete abstinence from all drugs and is guided by the message that “an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use, and find a new way to live.”
Beyond recovery meetings, NA members throughout India provide public information presentations, telephone helplines, and outreach programs in hospitals, treatment centers, and correctional institutions. All services are provided by volunteers.
NA’s public relations efforts aim to increase awareness of recovery opportunities and ensure that those seeking help can find support within their local communities.
