New Delhi, 25 May 2026: Twisha Sharma’s death case has intensified in Bhopal, with fresh developments drawing nationwide attention. The 33-year-old former model and actor was found dead at her in-laws’ residence in the Katara Hills area on May 12, barely five months after her marriage.
Twisha, who married advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025 after reportedly meeting through a dating application, was initially believed to have died by suicide. However, her family has alleged prolonged mental and physical harassment linked to dowry demands.
Her relatives, including her brother Major Harshit Sharma, claimed that Twisha was subjected to constant pressure and humiliation by her husband and mother-in-law, retired district judge Giribala Singh. According to the family, her condition reportedly deteriorated further after she learned about her pregnancy in April.
Police later arrested Samarth Singh after he surrendered following several days of absence. A local court rejected his anticipatory bail plea, observing that the death took place under suspicious circumstances within a short period of marriage. Authorities have since placed him in police custody for interrogation, while his legal licence was also suspended by the Bar Council.
Investigators said CCTV footage from the day of the incident showed Twisha visiting a salon before returning home. Additional footage reportedly captured her husband and others bringing her body downstairs and attempting CPR. As public pressure mounted, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to examine the case from multiple angles.
In a major development, a four-member medical team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi conducted a second autopsy at AIIMS Bhopal on May 24 following requests from the family and legal intervention. After completion of legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family, and the last rites were performed at Bhadbhada crematorium in Bhopal.
The Supreme Court of India is also scheduled to hear the suo motu case today, with a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant examining allegations of institutional bias and procedural irregularities in the investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death.
The National Commission for Women has sought a detailed report on the investigation, while the Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a CBI inquiry into the case.
The case has triggered widespread debate across the country over dowry-related violence, women’s safety, and the influence of powerful families in criminal investigations. Authorities have urged the public to avoid circulating unverified claims as the investigation continues.
