Agartala, May 20. Preparations for the upcoming nationwide Census began in Khowai on Wednesday with the launch of a three-day training camp organised by the district administration at the District Magistrate’s conference hall.
The training programme has been initiated to prepare enumerators and officials for the Census process scheduled to begin from August 1 across India.
The camp focuses on training personnel in data collection methods, field procedures, and proper documentation during the enumeration process.
The inaugural programme was attended by DM Rajat Panth, Additional District Magistrate Abhijit Chakraborty, Deputy Director of Census Prasanjit Nath Chowdhury, along with Block officials and other senior administrative officers.
Speaking at the programme, District Magistrate Rajat Panth said Census operations are conducted every 10 years, and the 2021 Census had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions.
Following normalisation of the situation, the Centre has now decided to begin the process from July 16, 2026.
Besides population counting, this phase will also include a detailed housing census. Enumerators will collect information related to family members, socio-economic conditions, and housing structures through door-to-door visits.
The District Magistrate also informed that the government has developed a mobile application through which citizens can participate in the Census process digitally on their own.
