New Delhi, May 19: The National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, has successfully completed a prestigious collaborative project with the President’s Secretariat, Rashtrapati Bhavan, for the design and production of the official Invitation Kit for “Republic Day at Home 2026,” celebrated on January 26, 2026.
The specially designed Invitation Kit highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship, with a strong emphasis on the traditions and artistic excellence of the North Eastern region.

In recognition of the remarkable contribution made by artisans and experts associated with the North East theme, the Hon’ble President of India expressed a personal desire to meet the individuals involved in the project.
As part of this honour, a distinguished delegation visited Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on May 19, 2026. The delegation included renowned bamboo expert from Tripura, Samir Jamatia, who played a significant role in showcasing the region’s traditional craftsmanship.
Speaking after the meeting, Samir Jamatia said he was deeply honoured to meet the President of India and receive national recognition for his contribution. He stated that he was felicitated with a white shawl and was also given a special tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The discussions during the meeting focused on reviewing the outcomes of the project, appreciating the representation of the North East theme, and acknowledging the efforts of the artisans and experts who helped bring the vision to life.
The event reflects the Government of India’s continued commitment to promoting regional crafts, indigenous knowledge, and traditional artisans on national platforms.
