Madhya Pradesh, 17 May 2026: A fire broke out in the B1 coach of Train No. 12431 Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express on Sunday at around 5:15 PM between Kota and Nagda sections under the Kota Railway Division in Madhya Pradesh. The affected B1 coach was the second coach from the rear end of the train.
As soon as the incident was reported, railway authorities acted swiftly and evacuated all passengers from the affected coach safely. Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported and all passengers are safe.
Following the evacuation, the damaged coach was detached from the train. With the assistance of the local administration and fire brigade teams, the fire was brought completely under control. Railway authorities also cut off the overhead electric (OHE) power supply as a precautionary measure during the firefighting operation.
To assist the affected passengers, refreshments and other essential support were arranged immediately. Passengers from the affected coach were temporarily shifted to other coaches of the train. Railway officials stated that a replacement coach is being arranged from Kota, where fresh seat allocations will be provided to the passengers.
The train is expected to resume its journey shortly after completion of all operational arrangements.
Railway authorities have also issued helpline support for passengers and their families. People can contact the railway helpline or dial 139 for further updates and information regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, a high-level inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials said the actual reason behind the incident will be known only after the detailed investigation is completed.
