Agartala, May 14: A 52-year-old man died after allegedly drowning in a pond while bathing at Chebri area under Khowai district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Majnu Mia, son of Abu Mia and a resident of Narayan Chowmuhani area under Ramchandra Ghat. According to police and local sources, Majnu Mia had left home in the morning and remained missing for several hours. Later, his body was recovered from a pond at Jibril area.
Police suspect that he may have drowned while bathing. Family members informed that the deceased was suffering from epilepsy and was also mentally unstable.
After receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Police Station, Krishna Dhan Sarkar, said the body was sent to Khowai District Hospital for post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report.
The body was later handed over to the family members on Thursday evening. The tragic incident cast a pall of gloom over the Chebri and Narayan Chowmuhani areas.
