Tripura, 06 May: The healthcare infrastructure of Agartala is poised for a significant upgrade, as Mayor Dipak Majumdar on Wednesday inspected the newly constructed Agartala Civil Hospital and assured that the facility will soon be opened to the public. The visit highlighted the administration’s push to enhance access to quality and affordable medical services for residents.
During the inspection, Majumdar stated that the hospital is in its final phase of completion, with only minor finishing work remaining. Expressing confidence in the project’s progress, he reiterated the commitment of the Agartala Municipal Corporation to operationalize the hospital at the earliest. “We want this hospital to be opened for the people as soon as possible,” he told reporters after reviewing the site.
Strategically located near Jackson Gate, the Agartala Civil Hospital has been designed as a 50-bed facility aimed at reducing the mounting pressure on major government hospitals such as GB Pant Hospital and IGM Hospital, both of which currently handle a high volume of patients from across the state.
The new hospital will offer a range of essential healthcare services. It will include multiple outpatient departments (OPDs) covering key medical specialties, allowing patients to access consultations under one roof. A minor operation theatre has also been set up to handle small surgical procedures, which will help streamline patient care and reduce waiting times at larger hospitals.
To ensure greater convenience, especially for working individuals, the hospital is expected to operate with extended hours from 8 AM to 8 PM. The facility has been equipped with modern infrastructure, including lifts and patient-friendly amenities, aimed at improving overall comfort and accessibility.
The project draws inspiration from successful municipal-run hospitals in cities like Mumbai, with the Agartala Municipal Corporation set to directly manage its operations. Officials believe this model will ensure better efficiency and accountability in service delivery.
The Mayor was accompanied by corporator Ratna Dutta, Additional Commissioner Mihir Ghosh, and senior hospital officials, who provided updates on the final preparations. The Civil Hospital is part of a broader state initiative to strengthen urban healthcare and meet the growing needs of the population.
