Khowai, Mar 28. A man was sent to 14 days of judicial custody on Saturday following his arrest for the alleged sexual harassment and molestation of his younger brother’s wife in the Durganagar area of Khowai.
The Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Women’s Police Station, Mina Debbarma, stated that the victim filed a formal complaint against her brother-in-law, identified as Ratan Saha (alias Non), on Friday.
Acting promptly on the report, police detained Saha, the son of Radharaman Saha, later that evening. A formal case (Case No. 05/2026 WKH) was registered against him under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including sections 329(3), 74, 64, 62, and 115(2), relating to criminal trespass, outraging modesty, and sexual assault.
According to police sources, the accused is a habitual offender with a significant criminal history. Saha is allegedly involved in the local illegal narcotics trade and faces multiple pending charges under the NDPS Act at the Khowai Police Station. Furthermore, he was previously implicated in the theft of an ‘Eco’ van from a resident in the Durganagar area a few months ago.
The accused was produced before the Khowai District Court on Saturday afternoon. After considering the gravity of the charges and his prior criminal record, the presiding judge remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
