Agartala, 28 March 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, police at Amtali Police Station seized around 578 kilograms of ganja from a Bolero pickup vehicle (TR07A1834) during a night naka checking operation near the Amtali bypass road, just about 50 metres from the police station.
According to police, the vehicle was intercepted by SI Ranabrata Das, Ranabrata Ghosh, and other staff members while conducting routine vehicle checking at the rear naka point. During the search, officers found the pickup loaded with 17 packets of ganja, each weighing approximately 34 kilograms, bringing the total seizure to 578 kilograms.

The arrested driver has been identified as Prasenjit Debnath alias Kalu (25), son of late Ratan Debnath, a resident of the Madhupur police station area. Police said he was alone in the vehicle at the time of the seizure.
Speaking to the media, police stated that a specific case under the NDPS Act will be registered against the accused. The driver will be produced before the court on Saturday, and police will seek five days’ remand for further interrogation.

During preliminary questioning, the accused reportedly told police that the consignment was being taken towards Madhupur. However, he has not yet disclosed where the contraband was sourced from or who the actual owner of the consignment is.
Police also said that, so far, the accused appears to be only the driver of the vehicle, and no other person was found accompanying him. Further details regarding the source, ownership, and intended network behind the seized contraband are expected to emerge during police remand.
The estimated market value of the seized ganja is said to be around ₹97 lakh, according to police.
