Khowai, Mar 27: A rare slow loris was rescued from the Office Tilla area in Khowai on Thursday night after it was found wandering in a weak condition near the DWS office. Local residents noticed the animal moving unusually slowly and appearing unwell, prompting them to alert the Forest Department. Officials later arrived at the scene and took the animal into custody.
According to locals, the slow loris seemed exhausted and struggled to move, indicating possible illness or lack of food. The incident highlights a growing concern over wild animals straying into human settlements.
Experts and residents attribute such occurrences to rapid deforestation in the region, which is reducing natural habitat and food sources. The situation has reportedly forced several species, including slow lorises and hoolock gibbons, to venture into populated areas in search of sustenance.
Environmental observers warn that continued destruction of forests could push such rare species towards extinction, stressing the urgent need for afforestation and habitat restoration.
