Khowai, Mar 26: In a key development ahead of the ADC elections scheduled for April 12, all 13 nomination papers filed for two constituencies in the Khowai District– Seat No. 9 (Asharambari–Halali) and Seat No. 12 (Ramchandraghat) have been accepted after scrutiny, with none rejected.
Returning Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nirmal Kumar confirmed that the scrutiny process, conducted on Thursday from 11 AM, found no discrepancies in any of the submitted documents. Candidates from various political parties as well as independents were present during the verification.
According to official data, a total of 13 candidates filed nominations across the two seats. In Seat No. 9, seven candidates submitted 10 nomination papers, while in Seat No. 12, six candidates filed nine nomination papers. All were declared valid.
Of the total candidates, 10 represent political parties, while three are independent candidates—two in Asharambari–Halali and one in Ramchandraghat.
The Returning Officer stated that the entire process of nomination filing and scrutiny was completed smoothly in the presence of the election observer. He credited political parties and administrative coordination for ensuring a hassle-free process.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 28, which will determine the final list of candidates for the April 12 polls.
Officials also acknowledged the role of the media in facilitating smooth arrangements by informing authorities in advance about nomination schedules, enabling proper security deployment and peaceful proceedings.
