Agartala: Mar 07. The Khowai Sub-Divisional Committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) has formally submitted a deputation to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) demanding the immediate arrest and maximum legal penalty for the perpetrators involved in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl.
The heinous crime took place on the night March 4, 2026, in a rubber plantation adjacent to the Labanya Choudhury Para School, under the jurisdiction of the Baijalbari Police Station. The victim, a minor, was reportedly targeted in a secluded area of Kalikrishna Para, sparking widespread local concern over the safety of women and children.
On March 7, 2026, a delegation led by Jharna Deb Sarkar and Ratna Choudhury met with the SDPO to hand over a memorandum, expressing “grave concern” over the rising tide of crimes against women in the state. The association highlighted a disturbing trend where rape and post-rape murders are increasingly becoming a threat to the dignity and security of female citizens.
The deputation specifically criticized what it termed “administrative weakness,” pointing out that criminals often remain at large or escape punishment due to the influence of powerful individuals. AIDWA leaders emphasized that while the perpetrators frequently go unpunished, the survivors are the ones who face continued harassment and social stigma.
The organization concluded its appeal by urging the police administration to take immediate and transparent action to ensure justice for the minor and to restore public confidence in the law-and-order machinery.
