Tripura, March 2, 2026: A major accident was narrowly averted in broad daylight after an allegedly intoxicated driver drove a goods-laden vehicle recklessly through the Durganagar area of Khowai on Monday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place around 10:00 AM when a goods vehicle bearing registration number TR01AV1632 was passing through Durganagar at high speed. The vehicle reportedly lost control and nearly rammed into a roadside tyre repair shop, where local businessman Bikash Pal and his employees were working at the time.
The shop owner and workers managed to escape just in time, avoiding what could have been a serious accident. Witnesses claimed that the driver appeared heavily intoxicated and was unable to speak properly. Instead of cooperating, he allegedly used abusive language against local shopkeepers when confronted.
Following the incident, local residents alerted the police. The accused driver was later detained and taken to the police station for further investigation.
The incident has raised serious concerns among residents, especially in the wake of the recently observed Road Safety Month across the state. Locals have questioned how such reckless behavior could occur in daylight, putting innocent lives at risk.
Residents of Khowai have demanded strict action against the driver and stronger enforcement from both the police and traffic authorities to prevent such incidents in the future. Authorities are yet to announce the exact charges or further action in the case.
