Ambassa: Jan 30. As part of National Road Safety Month, the Dhalai District Transport Department on Friday organised an awareness discussion programme at the Ambassa Town Hall, highlighting the urgent need for responsible driving and strict adherence to traffic rules to prevent road accidents.
The programme was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by BAC Chairman Parimal Debbarma, Ambassa Municipal Council Chairperson Pratima Malakar, Vice Chairperson Gopal Sutradhar, Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das, and District Transport Officer Prabir Debbarma, along with other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers stressed that overspeeding remains one of the major causes of road accidents and urged drivers to remain cautious at all times. They appealed to motorists not to use mobile phones while driving, never drive under the influence of alcohol, and to strictly follow traffic rules. Two-wheeler riders were specifically advised to wear helmets compulsorily and maintain prescribed speed limits, as high speed significantly increases accident risks.
As part of the event, experienced drivers were felicitated for their contribution to safe driving practices. A quiz competition was also organised involving school students and members of the audience to spread awareness about road safety norms.
The programme witnessed participation from NGOs, students, and local residents.
