Tripura, 30 Jan 2026: “Festivals are symbols of unity and harmony. The Lamprā Wathop festival is one of the most important festivals of the Noatia community, and through such celebrations, bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony among different communities grow stronger,” said Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating the 10th State-level Lamprā Wathop Festival at the Garjee Mela Ground in Udaipur on Thursday. The festival was jointly organised by Matarbari Block, Tripura State Noatia Hada, and the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Dr. Saha said that India is a land of diverse religions and cultures, and both the Central and State Governments are continuously working to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of all communities. “Unity is strength. Living together in happiness and sorrow strengthens social cohesion,” he added. He further stated that the indigenous communities of Tripura possess a glorious and rich history, and peaceful coexistence among all communities is the true identity of the state.
Highlighting initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said several programmes have been implemented for the holistic development of tribal communities. A demand has been placed before the Central Government to establish one Eklavya Model Residential School in every block of the state. Referring to the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” Dr. Saha said inclusive development is the key to national progress.
The Chief Minister also emphasized that the State Government has taken multiple initiatives for the overall development of all sections of society. “Peace and discipline are essential for development. Since peace has been established in the state, development work is progressing rapidly. Those attempting to disturb peace are being dealt with strictly under the law,” he said.
Speaking on education and healthcare, Dr. Saha informed that steps are being taken to strengthen the education system across the state and that an Ayurvedic hospital is being set up at Tepania in Udaipur. He also announced that the monthly honorarium of tribal community heads has been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000. To ensure timely implementation of tribal development projects, one TCS officer has been appointed in each district and subdivision.
The Chief Minister added that, under the Prime Minister’s guidance, several programmes have been undertaken for the development of tribal-dominated areas. The State Government is also working to ensure safe drinking water and housing for all sections of the population, including tribal communities.
Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, addressing the gathering, said the fair beautifully showcases the rich culture and traditions of the Noatia community. He stated that the State Government has taken special initiatives for the promotion, practice, and preservation of education and culture of all communities, including the Noatias. Several development programmes for tribal areas have been announced and are currently being implemented, he added.
Among those present at the event were Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, MLA Jitendra Majumder, MDC Padmalochan Tripura, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, Chairperson of Matarbari Panchayat Samiti Shilpi Rani Das, and other dignitaries. The welcome address was delivered by MLA and Fair Committee Chairman Abhishek Debroy, while the programme was presided over by Uday Singh Noatia, Social Head of the Tripura Noatia Community.
As part of the festival, nine development-oriented stalls from various departments were set up. A colourful rally was also organised, and a souvenir was released on the occasion. Additionally, clothing was distributed as gifts to 100 men and women during the programme.
