Tripura, 29 Jan 2026: Panic has gripped the residents after the water of Lunthangchhara in Bishramganj turned completely white, resembling paper. The unusual sight has left locals shocked, as such a phenomenon is hard to believe unless seen with one’s own eyes. The incident occurred near National Highway No. 8 under Bishramganj Police Station, where the water in the stream appeared milky white, as if powder had been mixed into it.
According to local sources, the alarming change in water color is allegedly due to the dumping of rubber waste from the Rubber Office of TFDPC Limited (under Sadar Division), located beside Lunthangchhara at Bishramganj. It is claimed that all rubber-related waste from this office is being discharged directly into the stream, causing severe pollution and turning the water white.
Residents fear that this toxic water poses a serious threat to livestock such as cattle, ducks, hens, and goats, and could cause mass deaths at any moment. They also warned that fish in the stream are being wiped out as rubber chemicals mix into the water, destroying the aquatic ecosystem.
Locals have alleged that the present Officer-in-Charge of the rubber office is responsible for the pollution. They stated that during the tenure of the previous in-charge, such contamination of the stream never occurred.
On Thursday afternoon, a news reporter visited the office to seek clarification, but the Officer-in-Charge, Sanjit Debbarma, was not present. Instead, other staff members allegedly scolded the journalist for visiting the office. Later, the Officer-in-Charge contacted an employee by phone and spoke directly to the journalist, reportedly rebuking him for coming to the office, while refusing to share his contact number officially.
Now, all eyes are on the Pollution Control Board to see whether action will be taken against the rubber office. The situation has become a serious warning signal for the lives of animals and the health of local residents. People are demanding immediate and strict action against those responsible for polluting the stream.
