Tripura, 29 Jan 2026: Police recovered counterfeit currency worth approximately ₹25,000 from in front of a shop owned by Nazbul Haque near the Churaibari Gate area on Thursday. All the seized notes were in ₹200 denominations.
Acting on information, officers from Churaibari Police Station rushed to the spot, accompanied by two plainclothes personnel. The fake notes were subsequently seized, and an investigation was initiated.
A local resident stated that the shop owner, in front of whose establishment the counterfeit notes were found, is not involved in any such illegal activity. According to him, the fake currency may have been planted there with the intention of framing someone.
Police sources said that all possible angles are being examined to ascertain the truth behind the incident. Further investigation is underway.
