Tripura, 25 Jan 2026: Tripura has added another feather to its cap with eminent Kokborok litterateur and educationist Shri Naresh Chandra Dev Varma being conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award by the Government of India for his exemplary contribution to Kokborok language, literature, and education.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed happiness and extended his heartfelt congratulations, stating that the honour has brought immense pride to the state. He said Shri Dev Varma’s lifelong dedication to the promotion and preservation of Kokborok literature has played a crucial role in enriching Tripura’s cultural and linguistic heritage.

“In recognition of his outstanding service, the Government of Tripura had honoured Shri Naresh Chandra Dev Varma with the Tripura Bhushan Award in 2024 for his exceptional contribution to Kokborok language and education. The Padma Shri at the national level has further illuminated the glory of our state,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr Saha added that Shri Dev Varma’s achievements would serve as a lasting inspiration for the present and future generations, especially for those working towards the development of Indigenous languages and literature.
Widely respected in literary circles, Shri Naresh Chandra Dev Varma is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in Tripura’s literary landscape. His works and academic efforts have significantly strengthened Kokborok literature and helped in its wider recognition.
