Kumarghat: Jan 25. In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Nivia Police under Ratabari Police Station in Assam arrested three persons, including two from Tripura, and seized a large quantity of contraband drugs along with a country-made pistol, multiple mobile phones and important documents during late-night operations on Saturday.
Acting on specific tip-off, police carried out two separate raids in the Nivia Watch Post area. In the first operation, police intercepted a Tata Punch vehicle bearing registration number TR-01-0486 and conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, during which 160 Yaba tablets weighing approximately 145 grams were recovered. Two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Dilwar Chakma and Nandalal Chakma, both residents of Pecharthal in Tripura, were arrested on the spot.
Following interrogation of the arrested duo, police launched a follow-up operation and raided the residence of Nur Uddin of Jalalabad, believed to be a local drug supplier involved in the racket. During the search, police recovered a country-made pistol, a vehicle number plate, a passport, three ATM cards, a PAN card and 14 mobile handsets. Nur Uddin was subsequently taken into custody.
Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the law and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the drugs and identify other persons involved in the interstate narcotics network.
