Tripura, 24 Jan 2026: Even before the shock of recovering an unidentified body had subsided, another body was recovered on Saturday morning from a nearby lake in the Chittamara Bagan Tila area under Belonia police station limits.
On Friday morning, police had recovered the decomposed body of an unidentified person from a lake in the same area. Barely a day later, locals spotted another body in a different lake located around 200–300 metres away from the earlier spot, triggering fresh panic and tension among residents.
Following the information, police rushed to the spot along with a forensic expert team. Personnel from the police and TSR were deployed in the area, and an investigation has been initiated.
Local residents said the area is largely isolated, surrounded by rubber plantations and forest land under TFDC, with no nearby habitation. According to them, the bodies were found in two separate lakes divided only by a small embankment.
Speaking to the media, police officials said the area falls within forest land and plantation zones. “Yesterday, we recovered the body of a male person from a lake, but his identity could not be established. Information was shared with all police stations. Today morning, we received another input about a second body found near the same lake area, around 200–300 metres away,” a police officer said.
The officer added that the second body is in an advanced stage of decomposition, making it difficult to determine even the gender at this stage. “Identification is not possible right now as the body is highly decomposed. We will conduct a detailed investigation and forensic examination. So far, there is no matching missing person report from the local area,” the police said.
The recovery of two unidentified bodies within two days has created fear and sensation in the Chittamara Bagan Tila area, while police continue their probe to ascertain the identities and circumstances surrounding the deaths.
