Agartala: Jan 24. The Indigenous Peoples of Mung-Dun-Chun-Kham (historical name for the Ahom Kingdom), Assam, have extended an invitation to Tipra Motha Charilam Block President Gautam Buddha Debbarma to attend the sacred Me-Dam-Me-Phi ceremony as Chief Guest on January 31, 2026.
Me-Dam-Me-Phi is one of the most significant religious festivals of the Tai-Ahom community. In Tai language, Me means offerings (tarpan), Dam refers to ancestors, and Phi signifies gods or deities. The festival is observed to offer oblations to departed ancestors and presiding deities, seeking peace, prosperity, and welfare for the community and the nation. It is also regarded as a solemn occasion of remembrance and commemoration of forefathers.
According to the organizers, the festival will be observed this year with a full-day programme, including a traditional ritual ceremony followed by an open public meeting (mukoli sabha). The event will be held at 1 No. Salaguri, Pathalibam, Moran, in Dibrugarh district of Assam, with active participation from local residents.
