Agartala: Jan 17. A two-day special workshop under the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) was successfully conducted in Dharmanagar to strengthen mental healthcare delivery and raise awareness about the growing importance of mental health in society.
The workshop was organised by the North Tripura district administration on January 16 and 17 at the North Tripura Zilla Parishad Conference Hall. Medical Officers (MOs) from various blocks participated on the first day, while Community Health Officers (CHOs) received training on the second day.
Renowned doctors Dr. Udayan Majumdar and Dr. Dipayan Sarkar served as a key resource person. They highlighted that mental health issues such as depression and anxiety are medical conditions, not social taboos, and stressed the role of frontline health workers in early identification and compassionate care.
Senior health officials including Chief District Medical Officer Dr. Dipak Chandra Haldar, District TB Officer Dr. Saumya Kanti Sinha, and District NCD Nodal Officer Dr. Alok Kumar Dhar were present and provided guidance during the programme. Other healthcare workers from across the district also participated actively.
The speakers underlined that timely recognition of issues like loneliness, insomnia, depression and excessive stress can help prevent severe outcomes and save lives. They emphasised community-level awareness to ensure no individual suffers in silence.
The workshop marked a significant step towards integrating mental healthcare into primary health services and reaffirmed the district’s commitment to building a mentally healthy and socially aware society.
