Agartala, Jan 15: Unemployed MPW-trained youths staged a protest in front of the Health Directorate at Gurkhabasti on Thursday, demanding immediate recruitment to long-pending vacant posts.
The candidates said they have been jobless for the past eight years as no recruitment has been conducted since 2016. Only 98 MPWs were appointed in 2024, while nearly 1,200 posts remain vacant, they claimed. Around 1,500 trained candidates are still waiting for jobs and many are now on the verge of crossing the age limit.
Protesters alleged that despite several attempts, they could not meet Chief Minister Manik Saha to place their demands. As a symbolic gesture, they folded their hands and appealed to the Chief Minister during the protest.
They also pointed out that many sub-centres across the state have become non-functional because of acute staff shortages. According to them, filling the vacant posts would help restore services at these sub-centres and address unemployment among trained workers.
The candidates warned that their agitation will continue until the government announces recruitment.
