Tripura, 16 Jan 2026: A tragic fire accident left a family of five with severe burn injuries after a gas cylinder reportedly burst into flames during dinner at Karna Kishore Para under Dalapati village in Dumburnagar, Dhalai district.
According to sources, the sudden blaze rapidly engulfed the family’s bamboo-walled house, giving the occupants little time to escape. The victims—parents and their children—sustained serious burn injuries and were rushed to AGMC & GB Hospital in Agartala, where they are currently undergoing critical treatment.
The family is facing additional hardship as the father, identified as Mr. Kashiram Tripura, is visually impaired, while the mother has only one functional eye. In the chaos of the fire, the mother reportedly managed to save their six-month-old infant by wrapping the child in cloth and handing the baby to rescuers. The infant miraculously escaped without injuries.
Local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing screams and smoke, cutting through the bamboo walls to rescue the trapped family members. By the time help arrived, the father had suffered extensive burns across most of his body, while the mother sustained burns on her hands and legs. Their daughter suffered burn injuries to her hand and leg, and their son sustained burns on his legs and other parts of the body.
The family reached GB Hospital on Saturday in extreme pain. Witnesses said the incident left onlookers deeply shaken, with many unable to hold back tears. Family members of other patients and well-wishers reportedly contributed money on humanitarian grounds to help purchase emergency medicines.
Doctors at AGMC & GB Hospital stated that the patients require continuous specialized care, including surgeries, wound management, medications, and prolonged hospitalization.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with cooking gas safety, particularly in bamboo and thatched houses common in rural areas. Authorities are expected to assess the incident and extend necessary support to the affected family.
