Dharmanagar: Jan 16. Panisagar Police arrested a Bangladeshi national along with a local tout on Friday following timely information and active intervention by villagers at Pekuchhara under Panisagar subdivision.
The arrested Bangladeshi has been identified as Sujon Mia (24), son of Ripon Mia, a resident of Rajnagar police station, Moulvibazar district, Sylhet, Bangladesh. The local agent was identified as Gopesh Deb (22), son of the late Khitish Deb, a resident of Churaibari, North Tripura.
According to police, preliminary interrogation confirmed that Sujon Mia is a Bangladeshi citizen. He reportedly entered India illegally a few days ago, first crossing into Assam and later entering Tripura. He had been staying at a relative’s house in Pekuchhara.
However, police said the accused gave inconsistent statements regarding the identity of the relative, claiming that the location was arranged by the agent Gopesh Deb. Due to these discrepancies, police stated that details of the house where he was staying would be disclosed only after further verification.
Panisagar Police confirmed that both accused will be produced before the court on Saturday, and a plea for police remand will be submitted for further investigation.
