Agartala: Jan 13. The Dhalai District Badminton Association is all set to host the Challengers Cup 2026 Badminton Tournament from January 29 to February 3 at the District Youth Affairs & Sports Indoor Hall, Ambassa. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Tuesday.
The tournament, now in its third edition, is expected to witness wide participation from across Tripura, with around 200 players already registered in different age categories. A total prize money of ₹75,000 will be awarded across events, along with trophies for champions and runners-up.
Addressing the media, Association President Shankar Chakraborty said that the prize money is being sponsored personally by social worker and badminton player Shantanu Jamatia. He added that arrangements for accommodation of outstation players have also been made to ensure smooth participation.
The tournament will feature age-based events in Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 categories, with boys’ and girls’ singles competitions. The Under-19 category will also include doubles. Senior events will include men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles, and a 40-plus doubles category.
Chakraborty expressed hope that the Challengers Cup 2026 would attract players from every corner of the state and play a key role in promoting badminton at a higher competitive level in Tripura.
Also present at the press meet were Vice-President Anil Baran Roy, Secretary Bidhan Sharma, and other members of the Dhalai District Badminton Association.
