Agartala, Jan 12: Launching the MNREGA Bachao Sangram in Tripura, All India Mahila Congress General Secretary and Tripura State In-charge Lhingkim Haokip Shingnaisui on Sunday strongly criticised the BJP-led central government, alleging that it was prioritising corporate interests while ignoring unemployment, price rise and women’s safety.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Tripura Pradesh Mahila Congress, Shingnaisui said she was in the state on the instructions of All India Mahila Congress National President Alka Lamba to strengthen the movement aimed at safeguarding MNREGA and protecting the dignity of workers.
She alleged that the BJP government was more focused on renaming schemes rather than addressing pressing issues faced by common people, including joblessness, rising LPG prices and inflation. According to her, government policies were being framed to benefit a select few, leaving the poor and marginalised behind.
Raising concerns over women’s security, she questioned the effectiveness of slogans such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, claiming that women continued to feel unsafe under the present regime. She asserted that the Mahila Congress would not remain silent and would resist threats or intimidation with unity and strength.
Calling upon women and youth in Tripura to come forward, Shingnaisui said the struggle to protect MNREGA was not just a political campaign but a fight for employment, livelihood and dignity. She stressed the need for peaceful, democratic movements and collective action to bring about change.
