Agartala, Jan 10: In a major push to protect MGNREGA workers’ rights, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Friday constituted a State-Level Coordination Committee to spearhead the statewide ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangram’.
The decision was taken at a preparatory meeting at Pradesh Congress Bhawan, chaired by TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha. The committee will plan, execute and monitor all phases of the campaign across Tripura, aiming for a coordinated mass movement highlighting workers’ hardships and demanding protection of wages, entitlements and dignity.
The panel is jointly headed by Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, MP and AICC In-Charge for Tripura, and Asish Kumar Saha. Key members include CLP Leader Birajit Sinha, CWC Special Invitee Sudip Roy Barman, former TPCC presidents Gopal Chandra Roy and Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl, former acting PCC president Pijush Kanti Biswas, and former MLAs Ashok Debbarma and Ashok Kumar Baidya, among others.
A wide cross-section of senior leaders, advocates, social activists, youth and tribal representatives, and grassroots organizers has been included to strengthen coordination at all levels.
AICC Secretary Christopher Tilak, In-Charge of Tripura, will serve as an ex-officio member, along with chiefs of all Congress frontals.
Addressing the meeting, Saha said the movement would be people-centric and decisive, targeting the failures of the present dispensation while standing firmly with rural workers, and called for unity and discipline to ensure its success statewide.
