Agartala: Jan 10. A joint team of Tripura Police, BSF, and TSR destroyed around 2.25 lakh mature ganja plants during a coordinated operation in the Bishalgarh subdivision on Saturday morning.
The operation was led by Jatrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Siti Kanta Bardhan, along with personnel from the 81st BSF Battalion and 9th and 11th TSR Battalions. The raid began at around 8 am and was carried out at two locations Baluchhara under Ward No. 1 of Thalibari ADC Village and the forested areas of Matambari.
According to the OC, nearly 150 personnel from the three forces participated in the operation, including police officers and both male and female police constables from Jatrapur Police Station. The team returned after completing the destruction drive by 11 am.
During the operation, a few locals reportedly gathered and attempted to create obstruction. However, seeing the large deployment of security forces, they refrained from confronting the team directly.
Speaking to reporters, OC Bardhan said such drives would continue regularly based on specific intelligence inputs. He added that the operations are being conducted strictly in compliance with directives from senior authorities of the police department.
Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance against illegal cultivation and warned that similar actions will follow wherever such activities are detected.
