Tripura, January 8: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a man aged over 50 on Thursday afternoon in Deuchhara Ward No. 3 area of Panisagar subdivision, North Tripura, along the Assam–Agartala National Highway.
The deceased has been identified as Nayan Ranjan Debnath (50), a resident of Ward No. 3 under Ramnagar Gram Panchayat. According to local sources, a six-wheeler goods truck bearing registration number TR 01 AN 1576, which was travelling from Agartala towards Assam at high speed, lost control and rammed into Nayan Ranjan Debnath who was standing by the roadside.
The impact was so severe that he died on the spot. Hearing the loud noise of the accident, local residents rushed to the scene and immediately informed the Panisagar Fire Service. Fire service personnel arrived, recovered the body and shifted it to Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, where it has been kept for post-mortem examination. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy, hospital sources said.
Family members stated that Nayan Ranjan Debnath was unmarried and had no children. He lived with his brother, his brother’s family and other relatives. His untimely death has cast a pall of gloom over the entire locality.
On receiving information, Panisagar Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Officer-in-Charge Gurupada Debnath personally visited the accident site and is supervising the probe. The truck involved in the accident has been seized and the driver, Haripadar Saha, a resident of Agartala, has been detained. Further investigation is underway, police sources confirmed.
