Agartala, Jan 9: Tipra Motha on Friday received another political boost ahead of the ADC elections as nine leaders from Maharani Chelagang quit the BJP and joined the party.
The leaders were formally inducted into Tipra Motha in the presence of Tripura minister Brishaketu Debbarma, party spokesperson Rajeshwer Debbarma, and other senior leaders.
Addressing the media, Rajeshwer Debbarma said the party is witnessing a continuous influx of leaders and workers, resulting in a temporary shortage of traditional Tipra risa during the programme. He said arrangements are being made and risa will be provided to all new members in the coming days.
Among those who joined Tipra Motha were Purendra Reang, who had contested the ADC elections as an Independent candidate from Maharani Chelagang, along with BJP leaders Dayal Jamatia, Nabaranjan Jamatia, Debananda Jamatia, and others, taking the total number of new entrants to nine.
Speaking on the occasion, the newly joined leaders said that in the 2021 ADC elections, Tipra Motha’s candidate had lost the Maharani Chelagang seat by a margin of around 1,800 votes. They claimed that several voters who had earlier voted against Tipra Motha have now joined the party, reflecting a shift in political alignment.
Minister Brishaketu Debbarma said the growing number of joinings indicates increasing public support for Tipra Motha ahead of the ADC elections.
Other party leaders were also present during the programme.
