Tripura, 09 Jan 2026: After an intense six-day search operation, the body of a youth who drowned in the waters of Narkel Kunj was finally recovered on Friday morning from the Helipad area. Despite using modern technology, NDRF personnel failed to trace the body for five consecutive days.
According to police, the incident occurred on the afternoon of January 4, when the boy had come to the Narkel Kunj picnic spot with his grandfather to sell jujube (kul/boroi) fruits. As the picnic spot closes around 4 pm, the boy was returning home with his grandfather by boat. When they reached near the Helipad ground, the boy, who was suffering from epilepsy, suddenly fell into the water from the boat.
His grandfather raised an alarm immediately, after which local boatmen, fire service personnel and the sub-divisional disaster management team launched a search operation. The next day, NDRF teams also joined the rescue efforts and continued searching till Thursday, but without success.
On Friday early morning, at around 5 am, the body was found floating near the river bank. The deceased has been identified as Dharamjit Chakma (17). His grandfather also showed medical documents confirming that the boy was under treatment for epilepsy.
The information was confirmed by SI Sujit Debnath of Raishyabari Police Station.
