Tripura, 09 Jan 2026: In a remarkable effort by doctors and healthcare staff, a critically ill mother and her newborn baby were successfully saved at Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital in South Tripura district.
A 30-year-old woman, wife of Balram Debbarma and a resident of Birchandra Manu area, delivered a baby girl on January 3, 2026. According to medical sources, her expected date of delivery was December 27, 2025. However, prior to that, the amniotic fluid had started drying up, which was not reported to doctors in time by the family, leading to a serious complication.
On December 27, 2025, the woman was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. Initially, doctors attempted a normal delivery, but the fetal heartbeat started dropping rapidly. Any further delay could have risked the lives of both the mother and the baby.
Under the leadership of gynecologist Dr. Snehangshu Das, the medical team took an immediate decision to perform a Caesarean section, which was successfully carried out. The surgery was conducted by Dr. Snehangshu Das along with anesthesiologist Dr. Jaydeep Chowdhury. They were assisted by OT assistant Subrata Saha, nursing officers Soma Saha Dutta and Sutapa Nandi Debnath, and other healthcare staff.
Both the mother and the newborn are now stable. The patient’s family expressed deep gratitude to the doctors and staff of Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital for saving their lives. The information was shared through an official press release by the Health Department.
