Agartala: Jan 08. A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 50-year-old man on the spot after he was hit by a speeding six-wheeler truck along the Assam–Agartala National Highway in North Tripura’s Panisagar on
Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Nayan Ranjan Debnath (50), a resident of Ramnagar Gram Panchayat, Ward No. 3. The accident occurred at Deocherra Ward No. 3 under Panisagar sub-division.
According to local sources, a goods-laden six-wheeler truck bearing registration number TR-01-AN-1576, travelling from Agartala towards Assam, lost control at high speed and rammed into Debnath while he was standing by the roadside. He died instantly due to the impact.
Hearing the loud crash, locals rushed to the spot and informed the Panisagar Fire and Emergency Service, which arrived promptly and shifted the body to Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. Hospital authorities said the body has been kept for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to the family thereafter.
Police from Panisagar Police Station reached the scene and initiated an investigation. Officer-in-Charge Gurupada Debnath personally visited the site. The truck involved in the accident has been seized and the driver, Haripada Saha of Agartala, has been detained.
Police confirmed that the deceased’s brother has filed a complaint at Panisagar Police Station. A case (PNS 2026/07) has been registered under sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Family sources said Debnath was unmarried and lived with his brother and other relatives. His sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over the entire locality.
