Tripura, 07 Jan 2026: Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu today inaugurated the three-day Pilak Archaeology and Tourism Festival at the West Pilak Higher Secondary School ground. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that Pilak is not just an archaeological site, but a unique confluence of Hindu and Buddhist heritage. He emphasized that Pilak will play a vital role in educating future generations about history, civilization, and culture.
The Governor described Pilak as one of South Asia’s important centers of cultural exchange and said that the festival carries the rich legacy of archaeology and tourism. He noted that tourists from abroad also visit Pilak, which contributes to the economic development of local villagers. He encouraged increased production of handicrafts and handloom products.

The Governor further stated that fairs are not only meant for buying and selling, but also aim to create health awareness, promote environmental protection, encourage sports, support self-employment, and showcase the state’s development initiatives. On the occasion, Cooperative Minister Shuklacharan Noatia welcomed the Governor by presenting a Pilak memento and a Surya idol.
In his address, Cooperative Minister Shuklacharan Noatia said that the Pilak Archaeology and Tourism Festival is a matter of pride for the entire state. He described the festival as a cultural meeting point of tribal and non-tribal communities. Artists from within the state and outside the state perform cultural programmes, contributing to cultural development. He added that Pilak is an important destination for culture and tourism, and the state government, in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), will take steps to further develop the Pilak tourist centre. Initiatives are also underway to renovate and modernize the Pilak tourist lodge.
Among others who addressed the gathering were MLA Milayu Mog, South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, while District Magistrate of South Tripura, Md. Sazzad P, delivered the welcome address. The programme was presided over by Tapas Dutta, Chairman of Jolaibari Panchayat Samiti. Noted social workers Dipayan Chowdhury and Shambhu Manik were also present.
As part of the festival, 20 government departments have set up exhibition stalls showcasing development activities. The three-day festival, organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department along with Jolaibari Block and District Committees, will feature various cultural programmes.
