Tripura, 07 Jan 2026: The Second Khowai District-Level Fish Festival was held today at the Zilla Parishad Office complex, Office Tilla, Khowai. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp by Chief Whip of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and MLA Kalyani Saha Roy.
The event was attended as chief guest by MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Chairman of the Tripura SC Corporation and Cooperative Development Corporation Limited. MLA Ranjit Debbarma was present as guest of honour. Special guests included Khowai Municipal Council Chairperson Debashish Nath Sharma, President of the Standing Committee of Khowai Zilla Parishad Anukul Das, District Magistrate Rajat Panth, Additional District Magistrate Abhedananda Baidya, noted social worker Binoy Debbarma, and Khowai Block SC Sub-Committee Chairman Samir Kumar Das. The programme was presided over by Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Singh Roy. The welcome address was delivered by Deputy Director of Khowai District Fisheries Department Bijoy Kumar Ghosh.
In her inaugural address, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy said that there is a huge demand for fish in the state and the government is actively working to meet this demand. She encouraged people to take up fish farming as a profession and said the government is providing various incentives to increase fish production. She urged fish farmers to adopt scientific methods of pisciculture, double fish production, and become self-reliant.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Pinaki Das Chowdhury said that the government is working in a planned manner for overall development of the state, including the fisheries sector. He appealed to fish farmers to not only meet their own needs but also become self-reliant through fish farming.
During the programme, six fish farmers from different blocks of Khowai district were felicitated as model fish farmers. On the occasion, exhibition stalls were set up by the Tribal Welfare Department, TRLM, Agriculture Department, Animal Resources Development Department, Khowai Krishi Vigyan Kendra, District Disaster Management Department, along with various other departments and NGOs.
The district-level fish festival aims to promote fish farming, encourage self-employment, and strengthen the rural economy of Khowai district.
