Agartala, Jan 5: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will inaugurate the three-day Swadeshi Mela on January 9 at Swami Vivekananda Maidan, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder said on Monday.
Ahead of the event, the Mayor chaired a preparatory meeting at the AMC conference hall in the presence of corporators, the Deputy Mayor and senior officials to review arrangements for the fair.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Majumder said preparations were in full swing. He said Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee and several MLAs would attend the inaugural programme, while state cabinet ministers were expected to visit the fair on the last two days.
According to the schedule, the fairground will remain open daily from 1 pm. Special lectures and discussion sessions will be organised from 4 pm to 6 pm, followed by cultural programmes from 6 pm to 9 pm. Local artists will perform during the cultural events.
The Mayor said the Swadeshi Mela was being organised in line with the Prime Minister’s call for ‘vocal for local’. The fair aims to showcase locally made products and encourage people to prefer indigenous goods over foreign products.
