Agartala: Jan 03. After months of rampant bike thefts across the Udaipur subdivision, police today arrested four members of an alleged motorcycle theft gang and recovered one stolen bike.
Acting on a tip-off, Radhakishorepur police carried out a planned operation and arrested Kala Mia (38), Idris Mia (42), Kajal Barua (30) of Mainama in Sonamura, and Bappi Sarkar (31) of Udaipur Agriculture Chowmuhani.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Debanjali Ray said the gang had been under surveillance for a long time and was apprehended at the right moment. Police added that further interrogation may lead to the recovery of more stolen motorcycles.
However, questions remain as several stolen bikes including one belonging to a police personnel are yet to be recovered.
Residents have urged the police to focus on complete recovery, not just arrests.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
