Agartala, September 19: On the occasion of World Bamboo Day, Tripura witnessed the inauguration of the state’s first Bamboo Massage Centre, a unique wellness initiative blending traditional resources with modern health culture.
The centre, launched by Nakhayung Welfare Society in collaboration with the Bamboo Forum of Tripura and Yogo Mini Café, has started its journey at Junic Fitness, Ujjan Abhoynagar, Agartala. Its aim is to promote bamboo-based wellness therapy, sustainable practices, and alternative healing.

Japanese guest Hirokazu Matsumoto, present at the event, expressed his appreciation, saying:
“I was invited to the World Bamboo Day today, thank you very much. I had never heard of using bamboo for massage in Japan, so I found this new initiative very interesting. I’ll be in Tripura until the end of April next year, and I hope we can collaborate on something to utilize bamboo in a new way.”
The inauguration was graced by MDC Bidyut Debbarma (TTAADC), who highlighted the economic and cultural potential of bamboo in Tripura:
“Tripura has 19 varieties of bamboo. From plantation to treatment, from tea leaves to daily essentials – everything can be connected to bamboo. With support from the government and initiatives like this, bamboo can even surpass rubber plantations in profitability. This is the right opportunity, and no one should miss it. Tripura can set an example for India and the world.”
He further emphasized bamboo’s role in Indigenous communities, food security, and everyday life, calling it a “God-given special resource” that could place Tripura on the global map.
Debabrata Sengupta, Deputy Director of the Department of Industries and Commerce, also praised the initiative:
“It’s good that in our state this bamboo-based massage has been inaugurated today by our honorable MDC, and our young entrepreneurs are involved. On this auspicious occasion, I wish the entrepreneurs success, and I hope the people of this state will enjoy the benefits of bamboo therapy.”
Bamboo technologist Samir Jamatia also attended the programme, adding professional weight to the event and underscoring the importance of bamboo innovation in Tripura’s development journey.
The event marks a new milestone in Tripura’s efforts to integrate bamboo into sustainable livelihoods, wellness industries, and global collaboration.
