Tripura Royal Scion Calls on Indigenous People to Stand United on World Indigenous Day
Tripura, August 5, 2025: In a powerful audio message ahead of World Indigenous Day, Tripura royal scion and Indigenous leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has urged all Tiprasa people across the state to come out in traditional attire and participate in peaceful rallies to assert their identity, culture, and democratic rights.
Observed on August 9, World Indigenous Day is celebrated globally to honor and highlight Indigenous culture, traditions, and struggles. In his message, Pradyot encouraged Indigenous communities in every village, block, and district of Tripura to gather from 6 PM to 7 PM wearing traditional clothes such as Risa, Rikutu, and traditional ornaments and to proudly showcase their dance, food, and heritage.
“For five years, we have been waiting for the Village Council elections. Repeated delays and excuses are denying our constitutional rights,” he said. “Let us walk together, not for one political party or one ideology, but for our people, our rights, and our unity. Whether you support Tipra Motha or any other party, you are first and foremost Tiprasa.”
Calling for unity and peaceful assertion of Indigenous identity, Pradyot added, “On this World Indigenous Day, let the world see us stand tall, proud of our roots and determined to demand our due. This is our day, and we must make our voices heard.”
He concluded the message with a heartfelt note of solidarity, affirming, “I am with you. You stand up for your rights. Tiprasa will get their rights.”
