Agartala, July 14, 2025: The state government is set to step up its campaign against substance abuse and child marriage with a major awareness programme slated for July 17 at the Gandhigram Higher Secondary School ground under Bamutia block. Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the programme and address the gathering as the chief guest.
The initiative aims to build public awareness on the twin social challenges of drug addiction and early marriage, both of which have shown concerning trends in various parts of the state. The campaign is part of a broader outreach being undertaken by the administration to engage communities, especially the youth, in constructive dialogue and action.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder, along with Swami Shubhakarananda Maharaj, Secretary of Viveknagar Ramakrishna Mission, are among the key dignitaries expected to attend the event. Also scheduled to participate are Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura Women’s Commission, and Jayanti Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The event will also be graced by Bamutia Panchayat Samiti Chairman Deepak Kumar Sinha, former MLA Krishnadhan Das, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, and West Tripura SP Dr. Kiran Kumar. West Tripura Zilla Parishad’s Acting Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil will preside over the programme.
Officials say the campaign will include cultural performances, student participation, and community discussions to spread the message more effectively. The programme is expected to draw a large turnout from local residents, educators, and youth organisations.
