Shillong, July 7: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has recently sanctioned ₹14.22 crore for multiple development projects in Tripura. A crucial meeting was held at the NEC Conference Hall in Shillong on July 4, chaired by NEC Secretary Satindra Kumar Vallar. The meeting was attended by officials from Tripura’s Planning Department and heads of various divisions from the NEC Secretariat. Discussions focused on the current status and implementation progress of Tripura Government’s proposals under NEC funding.
Since its inception in 1971, the NEC has been instrumental in providing financial support for Tripura’s infrastructural and socio-economic development under NESIDS (Road), NESIDS, and NEC schemes. Key projects discussed included the Regional Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology, a Diabetic Research Centre in Agartala, trauma centres at Kulai, Ambassa and Agartala, the Rukhia gas-based power project, renovation and expansion of substations and power supply lines, the interstate bus terminal at Chandrapur, an Energy Park in Agartala, and various road construction initiatives.
Under the recent funding of ₹14.22 crore, key initiatives include the establishment of pig breeding farms at Hawai Bari in Khowai district and at Jalefa in South Tripura district, implementation of essential services under Ganganagar RD Block and Raishyabari RD Block, excavation and renovation of ponds and small water bodies, setting up of six integrated seed processing plants, two modern agricultural markets, an integrated pack house in Dhalai district, and the construction of bruder houses and poultry hatcheries. A new school building will also be constructed at Vivekananda Tripureswari Vidyamandir School.
Additionally, the allocation includes funds for a workshop on GI (Geographical Indication) products, an international chemistry conference, and installation of solar-powered irrigation pumps in government-run orchid gardens.
Earlier, in June, NEC had also sanctioned an additional ₹1.31 crore. This included ₹40 lakh for infrastructure development of a girls’ hostel in Gandhigram, West Tripura, and ₹91.55 lakh for the construction of a hostel for girls at Dharmma Deepa School in Manubankul, South Tripura.
The meeting also emphasized accelerating project implementation through enhanced workplace skill development. The NEC reaffirmed its commitment to timely fund disbursement for the effective and prompt execution of approved projects, playing a pivotal role in the region’s socio-economic growth.
