Tripura, 9 May 2025: Rabindranath Tagore was a shining star in Indian literature and culture. It is impossible to imagine literature and culture without him. The more we study and celebrate Tagore, the more enriched we become. This was stated by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder while addressing the Prabhatī Kabi Pranam programme as the chief guest, held this morning at Rabindra Kanan on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary.
Organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, the event began with dignitaries offering floral tributes to the bust of Rabindranath Tagore as a mark of respect. In his speech, MLA Majumder said that Tagore is an emotional and cultural icon for all of us. He had a deep connection with Tripura and wrote many plays and novels related to the state.

He emphasized the need to present Tagore’s philosophy and thoughts to the younger generation. Special Secretary of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Debapriya Bardhan, said that Tagore was a multifaceted genius whose writings reflect human emotions like joy and sorrow, love and separation. He also stated that Tagore’s thoughts and philosophy remain relevant even today.
Also present at the event were MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, Director of ICA Department Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Vice-Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee Subrata Chakraborty, Chairman of Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited Jawhar Saha, Chairperson of Tripura State Commission for Women Jharna Debbarma, and renowned Rabindra Sangeet artist Kamal Baran Chakraborty.
Artists from various cultural organizations performed dance, music, and recitation during the Prabhatī Kabi Pranam programme.
