Tripura, 1 May 2025: In a significant advancement for the education in Tripura, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha handed over appointment letters to candidates qualified under the 228 TET category at a ceremony held on yesterday at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala. The new appointees include 66 undergraduates and 162 graduates selected for teaching positions within the State Education Department. During his address, Chief Minister Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process. “Merit is the only criterion for job allocation, not party loyalty,” he stated, underscoring the government’s determination to ensure that deserving individuals are given employment. He symbolically presented appointment letters to 15 candidates on stage and launched a new initiative from the Education Department called ‘My School My Pride,’ aimed at enhancing the quality of education and infrastructure in government schools.
Dr. Saha highlighted the state government’s achievements in employment generation, noting that a total of 17,554 government jobs, including die-in-harness appointments, have been provided as of March 2025. He assured the public that the recruitment process is entirely transparent and has not encountered any legal challenges thus far. “This year alone, 3,554 individuals have received appointment letters for government jobs, with more to be issued this month,” he said. Additionally, he mentioned that over 5,700 people have been employed through contractual and outsourcing arrangements to bolster the state’s administrative operations. To prioritize employment for local youth, the government has instituted the requirement of a Permanent Resident Certificate (PRTC) in the state’s recruitment process. “This is a bold and decisive step taken in the interest of Tripura’s youth,” the Chief Minister remarked. Dr. Saha also pointed out that employment opportunities are being created across various sectors. Over 2,900 individuals have found jobs in security and related services through various agencies and more than 1,600 positions have been generated in Tripura’s industrial estates over the past three years through the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation. As part of the National Career Service Project, three Model Career Centers have been established in Agartala, Dharmanagar and Kailasahar. Regular job fairs, career counseling, and vocational guidance programs are being conducted to assist unemployed youth in finding suitable job opportunities. “In the financial year 2024-25 alone, we organized 82 career counseling programs that benefited over 12,000 job seekers. Additionally, 28 awareness programs under the Agniveer project involved more than 3,000 youths,” he added.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the positive impact of central government schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Skill India, and Digital India in enhancing the employability of the nation’s youth. “In 2013, India’s employability rate was 33.35 percent. Due to a strong focus on skill development, it has now risen to 50 percent,” he said, expressing optimism that this figure will continue to grow in the coming years.
Furthermore, he noted that over two lakh entrepreneurs are now active in the state, thanks to sustained support for self-employment initiatives. Looking to the future, the government plans to introduce contemporary subjects such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security, renewable energy, and agri-technology into the school curriculum to make education more practical and job oriented. “Education is the backbone of the nation. Our aim is to transform the education system to meet the demands of a modern, skilled society,” the Chief Minister concluded.
